Passing
Things to do
- Ready Position
- Feet should be at least shoulder width apart pointing straight ahead or slightly turned in.
- Knees bent, ahead of and inside of feet
- Hips facing the ball
- Arms straight or with very sleight elbow bend, shoulder width apart, at 90 degrees from your body
- Weight Forward on balls of feet
- Shuffle
- Move to the ball without crossing your feet.
- Try to get to the spot before the ball does.
- Plant
- Keep body and feet still while waiting to dig and whenever possible during the dig.
- Wrists and hands together
- bring your hands together quickly providing a flat surface with thumbs even
- Sweet Spot
- lower forearms (just above the wrists)
- ball contacted at hip level, between your shoulders as often as possible.
- Legs
- Power comes from your legs; not from swinging your arms.
- Redirect
- Make sure your forearms face in the direction you want the ball to go.
- Start out facing the server, and always face the ball when you pass.
- 20′ And 3′
- 20 feet high and 3 feet off the net so that the setter has time to run under it and the team has time to transition.
Things to avoid
- “Stuck in the mud” – no movement
- Bobbing up and down
- Bent elbows on contact
- Swinging your arms
- Contacting the ball with hands apart
- Contacting the ball on the hands not the forearms
- Turning your body at the waist instead of swiveling with your shoulders to reach for balls off to the side
