Strength, Speed and Agility

Volleyball may not require the same level of physical endurance as running a marathon or even playing a soccer game but it does require the ability to move explosively, change direction rapidly, jump high, and swing with power. Each player should work on having a strong core to help with those movements and to help prevent injury. Be sure to consult a physician to ensure that they are able to perform any of the following movements before attempting them.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Number of continuous pushups in 60 seconds
    • From the toes to hands
    • keep back straight
    • JH team should aim for a minimum of 10 pushups
    • JV team should aim for a minimum of 15 pushups
    • Varsity team should aim for a minimum of 20 pushups
  • Plank – 3 minutes
    • From the forearms to feet
    • keep back straight
    • 1 point per ten seconds
    • All levels should be aiming for the three minutes
  • Number of Jump rope in 60 seconds
    • jumping with both feet together
    • one rotation of the rope per jump
    • Does not have to be continuous
    • All levels should have at least 50
